- Big Blue
Deceptively simple songs, cool and addictive...
Big Blue songs are stripped own acoustic tunes full of extremely catchy vocal hooks and melodies that hang off some of the coolest chord progressions ever to be called Rock & Roll. Big Blue makes just one acoustic guitar and a lead vocal sound like a full band. They sound remarkably fresh and original while keeping the song structures deceptively simple and to the point. |

Along with Brian’s unique phrasing and warm vocal tone the songs have dimension and depth in lyrics like, “Air Pollution / Homeland Transfusion / Distracted by the Lies They Sell.” Brian said, “I want our songs to have an essence of great bands that came before. With a love for the ocean, hanging around the beach is always a blast and just not something I’m able to do as often as I wish. This motivates me to channel a desire for better days into singing. Hence many oceanic lyrical references and the band name Big Blue”.
The idea was to assemble a band with the drive and talent to take their influences to the next level and be respected among the best like U2 and Zeppelin. Brian and Carl were spending too much time looking for a drummer and bass player, all they could find were players that wanted to be clones of their favorite bands, so we figured it’s better to stay focused on song writing until we had some hits.
“Escapism Generation Waste” is a song that came from looking at how fast the world seems to be moving for all generations living today. “We usually write a song by taking two or three good songs, and combining them into one excellent song, we’re aiming for quality and staying power,” said Brian.
Carl’s acoustic guitar playing is a perfect complement to allow the singer and the song to shine. Carl says, “The magic in the songs is result of tons of hard work during the songwriting and demo process. Sometimes we’ll play the same song for a couple hours to achieve the right feel. Memories of wandering around the desert in Death Valley by myself for four days came in handy for lyrical ideas.”
Before entering the studio, Brian and Carl created numerous demos of songs at home, playing everything live “no overdubs”. This was the concept when entering the studio, to capture the live essence of music.
Big Blue is from Toronto, Canada. |
